Sauvignon Blanc is also a white wine that comes from France, perfect for seafood or salads and very versatile. It also has a fruity flavor, but is somewhat different, in that it has overtones of sour apples, gooseberries, pears, or tropical fruits. Its aftertaste is an herbal one.
Semillon wine is a great wine to have with fish. Its fig-flavored overtones make it a favorite, and it can also be mixed with Sauvignon for a wonderful combination.
Muscat wine is best served solo, without food. This fruity sweet wine has a musky aroma and many consider it to be very sweet indeed, bordering on too sweet. Still others like this characteristic; this wine is popular with those whose preference borders on the sweet and who like its taste.
Pinot Grigio originates in Italy and is an extremely versatile wine when it comes to food pairings. Typical tastes include crisp, clean with a fruity taste, and intensely aromatic.
The Riesling variety of wine works well with pork, chicken, and fish. Originating from Germany it is slightly sweet and a light variety with a fresh taste. This wine gets better with age.
Lastly, Gewurztraminer is a light wine ideal for sipping. It goes well with Asian foods. This one, too, comes from Germany and bases its flavors on fruity tastes like rose petals or peaches. Although not as refreshing as some types of white wine, it’s truly unique.
White wine is a popular drink because it’s very light and has a semi-sweet to sweet taste. Normally, when people begin drinking wines, they start with white wines and then opt for drier versions later. Others prefer white wines because they are versatile, and because they go so well with so many different types of food and occasions. Most white wines are served chilled and not at room temperature as some dry red wine varieties are. The coldness of white wine is attractive to many people’s taste buds, as compared to warmer versions of dry wines. Typically refreshing, white wines are great chilled because they are so refreshing.
